Jim Zumbo at the Wood PileI'm sitting here outside in my man-cave, next to my wood pile, which is my favorite spot to hang out, weather allowing of course. Blogging isn't new to me. I quit writing them in 2006 while working for Outdoor Life Magazine, when my final blog caused a bit of a stir.

But that was then, and this is now. My turn. Join me on this journey where I'll chat about everything under the sun, most of it related to hunting, fishing, wild game cooking, and much more.

The title, JIM ZUMBO EVERYTHING OUTDOORS, defines the platform, but I'll also describe crazy incidents, like the time I was Dumpster diving to retrieve something valuable, or fought off a flock of crazed wild turkeys in my driveway, or stalked a palomino horse, thinking it was an elk on my first elk hunt when I was 23 years old. Yep, that's true. I'm not afraid to poke fun at myself. I've done some goofy things in my life, and will relate them in the blog. Well-- most of them. :-)

I'll be drawing on many of my adventures I had during my 30 years as a masthead editor with Outdoor Life magazine, many of them as Hunting Editor. I'll tell you about some of the more popular features I wrote, such as the story of the last grizzly bear in Colorado, the inside story of Milo Hanson's world record whitetail, how I finally met Hank Williams Jr., crazy times with Chuck Yeager, and many more. I've had the great fortune to have hunted all 50 states. If you want to know what happened in Rhode Island, or Connecticut, or Hawaii, or Alaska, for example, I'll tell short stories about those adventures. Much of my hunting has been in the west, western Canada, and Alaska. Most of those adventures were in the mountains or out in the remote tundra. Many involved lots of bush planes, plenty of horses, high country tent camps, a thousand campfires, and a million memories.

A few blog titles I'll be writing soon are:

  • "Is there a perfect elk rifle?"
  • "My favorite all-time foolproof recipe for really gamy venison"
  • "Drones---- why the big controversy?"
  • "A nifty and amazing trick you can do with your binoculars."
  • "The most important virtue a hunter or angler MUST possess."

And a whole lot more. Looking forward to visiting with you in cyberspace.

All best,
Jim Zumbo
